It’s Finally Raining Again: Rediscovering the Beauty and Importance of Rain

It’s finally raining again.
Many of us don’t fully appreciate the beauty and importance of rain—at least not until a drought reminds us. Then, we begin to miss the freshness it brings, the clean look of nature, the way the air becomes easier to breathe, full of life again. Rain transforms everything—and only in its absence do we truly realize its value.
Some don’t even notice the rain unless it’s inconvenient, disruptive, or burdensome. But then the rivers start drying out. Crops stop growing. Animals, once wary of humans, wander into villages and cities, looking for food and water. And we sense something is wrong. It’s only then that we begin to long for the rain again—all of us, without exception.
Those who live close to nature feel its rhythms more acutely. I remember the first time it started raining after a long dry spell. At first, I thought the drought couldn’t last more than a year. Then two. And it wasn’t until the fourth year that the first drops finally came.
What a relief it was. The land had become so dry, it barely absorbed the water. But little by little, the rain returned. I began to feel it soaking into the soil, filling it with life. Grass began to grow again, as if it had been waiting all this time. Even the moss responded instantly, sprouting with quiet joy. Nature seemed to explode—as if it had been spring-loaded all along.
The First Rain After Four Years
These two drawings were made right after that first long-awaited rain. It was a heavy downpour, powerful enough to wake up the mountains, to send rivers flowing with renewed energy.
As the rain stopped, clouds began to rise from the slopes. I had missed this view so much. For me, it’s one of the most beautiful things to witness—clouds forming and lifting, constantly shifting shape. In that moment, time feels different. You begin to perceive its flow, not by the clock, but by the unfolding of the sky.
Clouds were changing continuously—not just in form, but in meaning. As they moved, the entire landscape transformed. At times, it looked like an island rising from an ocean of mist. Other times, it felt like a new land just discovered—vast and unknown. Suddenly, the same place I had seen many times before became something else entirely. I could almost hear the sound of waves crashing, even though I stood on a mountainside.
The Same View, A New Perspective
These two images were created from the same exact spot. Only the point of view has shifted a little. And so has time.
Through them, I want to share the joy of nature, the quiet power of rain, and the inner peace I find in these moments. I’ve also intentionally left space—for your imagination to wander. Perhaps you’ll see something completely different.
Sometimes, it’s not just the landscape that changes. It’s us. And rain—often taken for granted—can be the quiet catalyst that reminds us to notice.
A Landscape Remembered by the Beauty of Rain
If this post resonated with you, I invite you to take a closer look at the two images featured here. They were created as a visual reflection of the joy and quiet relief brought by the return of rain—after years of drought, silence, and waiting. Together, they form a diptych: two perspectives of the same place, two moments of transformation. Whether you choose one or both, I hope they bring a sense of peace and appreciation into your space. A reminder of how even the gentlest change—like the first drops of rain—can breathe new life into everything.
